Forum Account FAQ

- Can I register an account and join this forum?
Yes!! Everyone and anyone is welcome. There is never special permission required. You'll have to read the forum rules and come in through the lobby, same as anyone. Once you are in we strive to welcome and respect everyone equally, and you will have ordinary, full access to the forum.
- If I mess up big-time, will I lose my account?
Almost certainly not. The only account-level moderation actions we take are to temporarily "mute" an account (up to a maximum of thirty days), which removes your ability to post but keeps your access to read, and to ban it, which removes all permissions, and is also not permanent, but lasts a minimum of six months and a maximum of two years.
However, those are both pretty much our last resort. We only take those actions if we really think that you taking a step away is the right call for both you and the people you are affecting. That's not a call we like deciding. We definitely prefer leaving it to you if you think you should step away, and above that, we trust you to do your best to be accountable and responsible for your own actions.
Communities don't become better places with bludgeons and batons, and we're not about putting fences up, here.
- May I register multiple accounts?
You may! Each account must individually and of its own accord post in the lobby to gain forum access, but you are allowed to have as many accounts as you like. Please be mindful that each account will generally be treated like its own entire person or being, and so having multiple accounts is a better fit for plural/multiple systems than for, say, putting all your wiki posts on MatMcConnaughieSerious and all your general posts on MatMcConnaughieOfftopic.
We moderate on the level of accounts, not human beings, and don't ban by IP. That means if one of your accounts is muted or banned, or if anyone, moderator or otherwise, has made a request of "the person behind the screen", it is your decision if you should also respect that request through any of your other accounts.
Although we welcome you to introduce yourself or your account and share how it's related to any of your other accounts, we don't require or expect this. You my choose not to inform us or anyone that your multiple accounts "belong to the same person" or similar. Moderation tools permit us (any mods) to see information like which email address you registered with and what IP you registered from (possibly recent IP access as well). We don't use that information as a factor in moderation and we certainly don't publicize it, but it is available to us, so keep that in mind if you need your accounts to be more separate.
- May I share my account with someone else?
You may, but be mindful about this. Anyone and everyone you share your account with will be acting with full responsibility for the account. Obviously they all have permission to edit posts, delete the account, etc, so you should have very good reason to share your account and then only share it with someone you'd trust with the keys to your house, your grandma's house, etc.
Moderation is on the level of accounts, not the people who share the account. You'll probably fit into the community as basically one person, too. You should consider if just having separate accounts and not sharing, or not usually sharing, is the better option for you.
